Thailand Hotel Recommendations

Due to many questions about which hotels/resorts to choose, we have decided to make a list of accommodation alternatives which we know either offer excellent value for money and/or basically are very good in themselves.

We will keep expanding this page with time. And if you have any comments on any of our recommendations, please do feel free to contact us. Or even better, write your own review on the hotels/resorts page found within this web site.

By choosing either of the accommodation alternatives listed on this page, satisfaction is guaranteed.

Chiang Mai

First resort out is Tamarind Village in Chiang Mai. The location is excellent, the rooms are very good and the swimming pool is perfect for unwinding after the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai; the second largest city of Thailand.

Bangkok

When it comes to Bangkok, staying in a good hotel is vital to enjoying the stay in this very large city. Here, more than anywhere else in Thailand, location is everything. The accommodation alternatives are many, but we've picked the ones we feel gives best value for money below:

One very good hotel to stay in is Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, the location is very good (by the river), the rooms are excellent and the service is impeccable. Many guests of ours have stayed here, with great satisfaction.

If you want to stay closer to the action and biggest shopping areas of Bangkok, you cannot go wrong with choosing the Sukhumvit area. Landmark Hotel is one of the best hotels in Bangkok, and one of the best hotels in Sukhumvit; very good rooms, very good service, very good location. Five star boutique Davis Hotel is another highly recommended getaway haven in the Sukhumvit area.

If you find the two former mentioned hotels a tad to expensive, a good and cheaper alternative is President Park Serviced Apartments. The price is good for what you get, big apartments including breakfast, and it's also centrally located in the Sukhumvit area. An even cheaper alternative is Royal Benja Hotel, good location, good rooms and very good breakfast buffet.

In the Silom area, both Narai Hotel and Silom City Inn are good value for money, and we recommend choosing the one that best suits your budget.

We have only one hotel in the Siam Square area, but it's a very good one, you cannot go wrong with Novotel Bangkok Siam Square. It's located right next to the SkyTrain station as well as several shopping centers, making the location very convenient.

Pattaya

In general we have an ambivalent opinion on Pattaya. It's famous, but the beach of Pattaya is not that clean, we rather recommended staying in Jomtien when visiting Pattaya. The beach is much better on the same time as it's only a short taxi ride from the center of Pattaya.

Both Jomtien Thani Hotel and Jomtien Palm Beach Resort are sure winners on Jomtien Beach. Anyhow, if you do decide to stay in Pattaya itself, Central Wong Amat Resort is one of the better choices, located north on Pattaya Beach.

Koh Chang

Koh Chang is the second largest island of Thailand and the latest years it has started to rise as a major tourist destination, mainly because of the relaxed atmosphere and some of Thailand best beaches.

White Sand Beach (Had Sai Khao) is a very good beach indeed, and here we highly recommend Koh Chang Lagoon Resort, where you are never more than 1 minute walk from the beach. If you want to pamper yourself with more luxury, you simply can not go wrong with the newer Aiyapura Resort & Spa on Klong Son Beach.

Hua Hin/Cha-Am

In Cha-Am we highly recommended Methavalai Resort, a favorite amongst previous guests. In Hua Hin we both recommend Sofitel Central Resort and Grand Hotel & Plaza, both being landmarks of Hua Hin. Again, choose the one which best suits your budget; you cannot go wrong with either one.

Koh Samui

Koh Samui is the third largest island of Thailand (after Phuket and Koh Chang), as such, there are many good choices of accommodation here.

On Chaweng Beach, the longest and best beach of Koh Samui, we highly recommend Central Samui Beach Resort. This resort has good rooms, is centrally located yet has quiet surroundings, the pool is great and within the resort you can find some of Samui's finest restaurants.

Stepping down a little bit in standard, we recommend Malibu Beach Resort, actually a three star resort, but the rooms can easily be considered four star. It's very centrally located and the beach front is on the best part of Chaweng Beach. The Superior B Rooms are best value for money at Malibu Beach Resort.

Moving on to Lamai Beach, the second longest stretch of sand on Samui, we highly recommend the newer Buriraya Resort & Spa. The rooms are fantastic and the concept of the resort is relaxation, a working concept that is. It's been described as 'Fabulous', 'Heavenly', 'Truly beautiful' and 'Samui's best kept secret'. Need we say more!

Another alternative on Lamai Beach is Samui Sand Sea Resort & Spa. The 'Royal Front Beach' back-to-nature-style bungalows are located right on the beach. Excellent!

Closer to the center of Lamai is Pavilion Samui Resort, a boutique resort with excellent rooms and nice decor within the whole resort. Highly recommended!

In Bo Phut, a quieter area of Koh Samui, you cannot go wrong with Peace Resort, it's right on Bo Phut Beach and has very good rooms.

Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is located 45 minutes by boat from Koh Samui and are by many people described as 'Koh Samui ten years ago'. Well, it might have been true some years ago, but now Koh Phangan is rising as a major tourist destination, especially amongst back-packers. Most accommodation on Koh Phangan is still basic bungalows on and around the major beaches. The three resorts on our web site, Long Bay Resort, Panviman Resort and Phangan Cabana are of the better alternatives. All three are given our recommendations!

Koh Tao

Koh Tao is a major diving destination in Thailand, and for good reason, but the island is highly recommended for anyone wanting to get away from most and experience a deeper sense of relaxation.

Of accommodation alternatives, Coral Grand Resort is one of the best resorts on Koh Tao. It's right on the main beach (Sairee Beach), has beautiful rooms and swimming pool. Highly recommended!

To Top
Krabi

Perfect for rock climbing and with good beaches, Krabi is a major tourist destination in Thailand. Phra Nang Inn is one of the best known resorts in Krabi, and for good reason. Very scenic resort, very unique and good rooms. Highly recommended!

To Top
Phuket

Phuket has recovered very fast from the Tsunami, all hotels recommended here were as good as unaffected by the tidal wave.

Horizon Beach Resort is located on Patong Beach. It has good sized rooms, two big pools and the beach is just across the road. It's not a noisy hotel and we highly recommend it!

Actually closer to Kata center than Karon center, Andaman Seaview Hotel is found. It has airy, well fitted and comfortable rooms. Just across the road is Karon Beach, even though it also has good pools, and they're serving very tasty food. Highly recommended!
